Writing SF
I began writing Science Fiction seriously in the Spring of '02, with a little 1 page ditty which has since expanded into a novella. Isn't that always the case?
Before writing seriously, I fiddled with fan fiction. Not only because it was fun but because I knew I wanted to start writing seriously, and fanfic gave me a way to start practicing some of the elements that I felt needed work, before I took the plunge into (hopefully) submittable work. That didn't last long, though, and while I have a few unfinished fic pieces, I probably won't finish them. More likely, I'll take the ideas in them (and the aliens!) and integrate them into original work.
Currently I'm working on five pieces: a flashpiece, two shorts, a novella, and a novel. What a nice mixture to have.
My critique group is called "The sociable plovers." I guess its the name of a pub in the British Isles somewhere, not to mention a rare bird (Vanellus Gregarius). We work
pretty hard, but have a lot of fun, too!
I've recently joined the
Online Writing Workshop as well. A worthy cause.
